Real Social Equality

07.08.2017

“Equality, rightly understood [...], leads to liberty and to the emancipation of creative differences.” Barry Goldwater anti-civil rights speech in 1964 still echoes today. This is the liberty that the ideology of neoliberalism revels in. It is the freedom of some to oppress and exploit others. Call it “the emancipation of creative differences” (just consider this phrase!). Call it “liberty” (whose?). Call it whatever you like. It is not the real social equality, for which workers and people discriminated against because of their race, ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation have fought in the past and still fight today.
